a few things

last weekend while we were in seattle, we stopped by lola for a little snack. we chose the cinnamon sugar donuts (photo above). served with vanilla bean marscapone and pear jam, they were absolutely delicious.

we're in the process of planning a 'sun trip' or two - palm springs, scottsdale, san francisco, and hawaii are on the short list. decisions, decisions.

i've been on the lookout for a clutch - i ordered these two to see how i like them. i'm hoping that they can also double as ipad cases.

we have lots of work on the house planned for this weekend. the project i'm most excited about? painting one of the walls in our living room black. photos to come (if it turns out).

happy weekend!

happy new year

hello! i hope everyone enjoyed the holidays.

i'm excited for the new year and all that it will bring; it really feels good to have a fresh start.

with all the phones and ipads and such, i still like to have a physical calendar that i can glance at. if you'd like, you can download the one i created here (just print onto 8.5x11 card stock).

note: the image is from here and the font i used is ss adec

our first house project

one of the biggest realizations i've come to since buying our house is that there will never be a shortage of projects. the first one i tackled was painting the big white wall next to the fireplace in our dining room.

using this as inspiration, i started by measuring out the design on graph paper. i ended up throwing that out, as it was much easier to just eyeball it.

as for the colors - those changed quite a bit, as it was hard to predict what would and wouldn't look right together. i ended up painting a few of the sections twice. i also added the silver and gold accents at the end.

and now for the before and after:
